Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and I have created this blog, partly for a college course, but mostly to be a forum to share my new found love of trail running with others of all experience and interest levels. The majority of my trail running adventures have been in the woods of Maine with my wife, Erika, and my three dogs, Jodi, Jagger, and Gino. I look forward to exchanging stories, tips, pictures, and getting to know you all!

Happy Trails!

Beautiful day in Baxter Woods

Perfect weather for running today! Temperature was in the 80s, but the air was light and there was a cool breeze blowing through the trees. Baxter Woods is a little nugget of nature in the middle of the city; so close to our apartment that we can do a 5 minute warm up walk to the woods, run the trails, and walk back to the house for our cool down. I know, we are quite lucky! The city of Portland has been working hard to improve the trails and the overall aesthetics and it has certainly paid off. The trails were well groomed and lined with mulch, the flowers were in full bloom and their smell emanating through the woods, and the pond was clean and covered with beautiful lily pads roughly the size of my head. Though I am sure I could have run a better pace, I found myself slowing down so as to enjoy my surroundings just a little bit more. Not a super challenging run, but definitely one to inject a little soul soothing in the day!

Happy Trails everyone!

  1. Hello Kelly,
I have always enjoyed hiking trails and being able to view the beautiful scenery. I am not a very good runner though. I have really bad knees so running can be very painful. I am very excited about the prospect of being able to run again though because I have been taking strength training to build up my strength and endurance. The entry you wrote sounds so beautiful. I could see the flowers and the pond in my mind and it makes me want to go to Oregan. It sounds like a beautiful day!
