Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and I have created this blog, partly for a college course, but mostly to be a forum to share my new found love of trail running with others of all experience and interest levels. The majority of my trail running adventures have been in the woods of Maine with my wife, Erika, and my three dogs, Jodi, Jagger, and Gino. I look forward to exchanging stories, tips, pictures, and getting to know you all!

The Importance of Selecting the Right Trail Running Footwear

Are you looking for the right pair of trail running shoes, but are not quite sure where to start? From personal experience, selecting the right pair of shoes can be a process, so I created this podcast to review the basics and share what I have learned. I hope you can find something to help you in your search for the pair of trail running shoes that are right for you.

Beautiful day in Baxter Woods

Perfect weather for running today! Temperature was in the 80s, but the air was light and there was a cool breeze blowing through the trees. Baxter Woods is a little nugget of nature in the middle of the city; so close to our apartment that we can do a 5 minute warm up walk to the woods, run the trails, and walk back to the house for our cool down. I know, we are quite lucky! The city of Portland has been working hard to improve the trails and the overall aesthetics and it has certainly paid off. The trails were well groomed and lined with mulch, the flowers were in full bloom and their smell emanating through the woods, and the pond was clean and covered with beautiful lily pads roughly the size of my head. Though I am sure I could have run a better pace, I found myself slowing down so as to enjoy my surroundings just a little bit more. Not a super challenging run, but definitely one to inject a little soul soothing in the day!

Happy Trails everyone!

Quick morning jaunt with Jodi

What a gorgeous morning for a trail run! Erika, my wife, Jodi, a beagle and the oldest of our three dogs, and I couldn't have asked for better weather this morning on our run through Baxter Woods (though, the run ended up being more like a slow jog as Jodi is getting old and not moving as well). I wasn't able to push myself, but I was able to start my day with some time in the woods! Fed the senses and soothed the soul!

Hello everyone!

This is my very first endeavor into blogging, and, I have to admit, beginning the process was a lot easier than I assumed it would be! I have created this blog as a school project, but, more importantly, to share my newly acquired love of trail running, to share my experiences running in the Maine woods (along with my wife and 3 furry children), and to network with others who have various ability levels, experiences, and interests in trail running. I am, by no means, an expert so I look forward to connecting with others, sharing ideas and stories, and building my knowledge base through networking with all of you! Please feel free to share your ideas, facts, questions, and experiences, too!
